At Everyday Micros Farm

Everyday Micros Farm is a small indoor urban farm dedicated to producing high-quality, nutrient-rich microgreens, herbs and edible flowers year-round growing for professional chefs, home cooks and health specialists in Burlington, ON. We utilize sustainable farming practices to cultivate a wide variety of microgreens, herbs and edible flowers 365 days a year even through the harsh Canadian winter.

The impact you'll make

We are seeking a dedicated and hardworking co-op student to join our team as an Intern Farmer.  The ideal candidate will be passionate about regenerative agriculture, possess a strong work ethic, and embrace collaboration. As an intern farmer, you will be partnered with a junior farmer and contribute to all aspects of our microgreens, herbs and edible flower production process, from seed sowing to harvesting and packaging that we grow indoors and outdoors.

What you'll do

Microgreens, herbs and edible Flower cultivation:  Assist in the planting, watering, and harvesting of microgreens using hydroponic and/or soil-based growing methods. Our outdoor growing in the summer will require plant bed maintenance.

 

Crop maintenance: Observe and report on the health and growth of microgreens, identify and address any pest or disease issues, and ensure optimal growing conditions. Maintain high quality standards for all of our products.

 

Seed Sowing: Help sow seeds in trays or mixing growing mediums according to planting schedules and production requirements.
 

Harvesting and packaging: Harvest microgreens at the peak of freshness, carefully handle and package them for delivery to customers while maintaining product quality and presentation.

 

Cleaning and sanitization: Support maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards in the growing area, including washing trays, equipment, and work surfaces.

Contribute to Research and Development Projects: Participate in projects, such as setting up new growing systems, expanding growing capacity, and implementing process improvements. Be adaptable and ready to assist with various tasks.

 

Follow Farm Procedures: Follow established safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others as well as developing systems to help with team efficiency


Assist Social Media Marketing: Work with other team members to post content on platforms by researching for podcast episodes and blog posts. This is an opportunity to dive into topics you are most passionate about sharing with the greater community.

Student Eligibility for this internship

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in a recognized post-secondary co-op program in Ontario and completing the internship as part of their academic requirements

  • Candidates must provide documentation from their institution confirming their eligibility for a co-op placement.

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant degree program such as agriculture or environmental science

Qualifications

The food you grow will feed many people including top chefs, home cooks and families in the Toronto area through creative or nutrient dense dishes.

In the interview you should be able to demonstrate these Qualifications

  • A valid driver’s license (Ability to drive to multiple farm locations)

  • Must be eligible to legally work in Canada

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.

  • Previous experience in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field is preferred

  • Strong knowledge of microgreens, hydroponics or indoor growing systems

  • Strong knowledge of no-till outdoor summer growing methods

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow instructions accurately.

  • Effective communication and ability to work as a team

  • Passion for sustainable farming practices and commitment to producing high-quality produce.
